Monte de Sanomedio or San Mamede is one of the most outstanding hills in the region of O Condado. Situated at an altitude of 694 metres, it overlooks a large area of territory, which is why it was used for military purposes for centuries.
This mountain also houses a chapel dedicated to San Mamede ‘which is very popular with devotees from the country and even from Portugal’, according to Madoz's 1849 Dictionary. We have news of the existence of a chapel on this natural elevation since before 1528, although it was not always standing.
