A Encrucillada Altarpiece
It was erected in 1898 in A Encrucillada (Carreirachán). Its promoter was the owner of the house, Manuel A. Carrera. A representation of the sun and the moon flank the small temple, protected by an iron grille. The altarpiece is made of polychrome wood, presided over by a Saint Francis holding out both hands to the almiñas at the sides. On a lower level, there are three more souls, the central one being a priest. Above the shrine we read this text appealing to passers-by: ‘Brothers who pass by, remember us who are in pain’. The breastwork is crowned by two pinnacles ending in a ball flanking a Latin cross without a figure standing on a sphere.
