Map of the Kingdom of Galicia

Tomás López, 1784
Tomás López (1731-1802) was a cartographer from Madrid. He was sent to Paris in 1752 by the Marquis de la Ensenada to learn engraving techniques. He returned to Madrid in 1760, devoting himself to the formation of maps by compilation of other previous ones, without carrying out field work, nor geometric calculations. In order to elaborate his maps he sent a questionnaire to bishops, priests and parish priests of the Crown of Spain to ask them for ‘a kind of maps or plans of their respective territories’.
